Harry and Meghan Face Their Biggest Concern Bringing Children Back to the UK

Personally dropping off and picking up Archie and Lilibet makes security the top concern for the Sussexes after moving back to the UK.

Harry and Meghan are adapting to their new life in the UK after unexpectedly returning with their two children, Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5. However, doing the school run themselves could make security the family's biggest worry.

According to British media, Archie and Lilibet will start attending a private school in the UK in the coming days. Harry, 41, and Meghan, 45, reportedly want to drop off and pick up their children themselves rather than relying on nannies. This routine particularly concerns Harry because the fixed times and locations could make the family easily trackable or targets.

A friend of Harry told the Telegraph: "This is definitely the biggest concern. It creates the most risk."

The Sussexes currently only use a privately funded security team. These personnel are not allowed to carry firearms in the UK and do not have access to intelligence sources like the British police. For years, Harry has pursued requests for state-funded police protection while in the UK. King Charles III's youngest son previously stated he did not feel safe bringing his family back to the country without this protection.

In July, Harry was informed that a risk assessment regarding him had been conducted. Following this, the Duke of Sussex sent multiple letters to the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (RAVEC) and the Home Secretary requesting to know the results.

According to the Telegraph, Harry believes the continued lack of police protection is a form of "punishment" for stepping down from his royal duties. He also suspects the delayed response is a pressure tactic.

Previously, Meghan had said that taking Archie to school in the UK could become a media "frenzy". In a 2022 interview with The Cut, she suggested that if they lived in the UK, every school run would carry the risk of turning into a major event with paparazzi present.

However, some royal experts dismissed this concern. They argue that strict privacy regulations in the UK help protect royal children, pointing out that Prince William and Princess Kate have been doing the school run for years without being hounded by paparazzi.

A source close to Harry previously told the Sunday Times that his private security team has significant limitations when protecting the family in the UK. The source argued that Harry's return to the country means the security issue needs to be reconsidered, as he is still King Charles III's son.

Alongside the security issue, the reason for Harry and Meghan's return to the UK is also drawing interest. The couple left the UK in 2020 to move to the US and build a new life in Montecito, California. According to recent sources, one of the reasons for Harry's return might be related to a film project about his mother, the late Princess Diana, marking the 30th anniversary of her passing in 2027.

Richard Kay, editor-at-large for the Daily Mail, said on the Palace Confidential podcast that Harry is reportedly making a documentary about his mother and has reached out to people who knew Diana to invite them to participate. This project could take up most of his time over the next year or so.

Darren McGrady, Queen Elizabeth II's former chef, seemingly corroborated this information when he shared on Instagram that he saw a film crew at the Althorp estate, where Diana is laid to rest and the home of her brother, Earl Spencer.

Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan have maintained a relatively low profile since returning to the UK. Meghan only spoke out publicly following the death of Gloria Steinem, a feminist activist and her close friend, on September 2 at the age of 92. The former American actress posted a previously unseen photo of Archie with Gloria, sharing that she had spent Thanksgiving with the Sussex family, loved Archie and Lilibet, and had given her a lot of advice during difficult times.
