Republicans Have $677 Million. Democrats Have $136 Million. The Midterm Money Race Is Already Over.
For decades, complaining about money in politics was a Democratic party tradition — a reliable applause line at every fundraiser, every convention, every cable news appearance where a progressive needed something to be outraged about. Citizens United. Super PACs. Dark money. The corrupting influence of corporate cash on American democracy.
They were raising more of it than anyone else the entire time.
The Q2 fundraising numbers are in, and they tell a story that should make every Republican optimistic and every Democratic strategist reach for something stronger than coffee. The NRCC raised $35.4 million in the second quarter and enters the midterm homestretch with $92.7 million in cash on hand. The DCCC has $79 million. Republicans lead on House committee cash — which historically is the most direct predictor of competitive race outcomes — by nearly $14 million.
But the House committee gap is almost a rounding error compared to the full picture. Total Republican committee cash on hand as of June 30: $677 million. Total Democratic committee cash on hand: $136 million. A five-to-one fundraising advantage heading into the most consequential midterm in a generation.
The DNC numbers are the most embarrassing. Sixteen million dollars in the bank. Eighteen and a half million in debt. Net position: negative $2.5 million. This is the national party infrastructure that is supposed to coordinate messaging, support candidates in competitive districts, and fund the ground game that turns out Democratic voters in November. It is functionally insolvent.
Democrats keep insisting this doesn’t matter. They’ve been saying for months that small-dollar donors will surge, that anti-Trump energy will translate into a fundraising wave that closes the gap before October. The numbers through June say that wave hasn’t arrived. The generic ballot says the anti-Trump energy that powered 2018 has dropped 21 points among Democratic voters. The internal party polling that required NDAs before senior officers could even see it says something is deeply wrong.
Republicans are building a campaign machine to win. Democrats are still holding clown-show socialist auditions to decide who gets to lose in November.” That’s the NRCC’s own spokesman, Mike Marinella, and it’s not an unfair summary of what happened in their primary cycle. The Platner catastrophe in Maine. The DSA wins in New York and Colorado. The socialist candidate in Michigan. Graham Platner had a Nazi tattoo and Democrats gave him 72% of their primary vote. That’s the environment the DCCC is trying to raise money in.
MAGA Inc. alone has $400 million. The RNC has $128.5 million. The NRSC has $55.9 million. Put it together and Republicans have built the kind of financial infrastructure that wins elections — the kind that allows them to go on offense in districts that shouldn’t be competitive, force Democrats to spend money defending seats they thought were safe, and still have resources left for the close ones.
Democrats spent twenty years telling America that money was corrupting politics. Republicans spent 2025 and this year winning the money race by five to one.
Now the question is whether Republicans will spend it wisely enough to deserve what voters are about to hand them.

On Thursday an official update was also shared, whereby the Palace had revealed how serious his condition was. What is also pertinent to mention is that the royal has been on the throne since 1991, and is considered Europe’s oldest head of state, according to the outlet.
His son, the Crown Prince is also 53-years’ old and has already been serving as regent while his father was on medical leave.
The outlet’s report also says, “King Harald has been treated in recent weeks with cortisone for haemolytic anaemia, a condition that causes the number of red blood cells in the body to be reduced, and leads to fatigue and shortness of breath.”
The official website has also gone down since then, with the simple message, "It is with deep grief that we announce that His Majesty King Harald has passed away. King Harald died peacefully at Oslo University Hospital Rikshospitalet Friday 28 August at 6:35 AM."

Dolly Parton’s death came after a brief battle with cancer, her representatives revealed Tuesday.
The country music legend died Aug. 25 at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville. She was 80.
Parton had been admitted to the cancer center Friday, four days before her death. Her representatives confirmed the cancer diagnosis in a statement to PEOPLE but did not disclose what type she had.
“Our beloved Dolly Parton spent her life and career bringing joy, laughter, hope and integrity into everything she touched. Her unmatched generosity reached the lives of countless people whom she would never meet, yet she was always there to offer a helping hand,” the statement read.
“Whether it be the hundreds of millions of books donated through her invaluable Imagination Library or funding research that helped create a lifesaving vaccine used around the world, Dolly’s unconditional love for all people was the guiding force for her lasting impact. After bravely facing a brief battle with cancer, Dolly departed her Earthly life today at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center surrounded by loved ones,” the statement concluded.
The “Jolene” singer had also been dealing with kidney and autoimmune issues before her death, PEOPLE previously reported.
Just days earlier, Dolly Parton opened up about her declining health and acknowledged that she had put off addressing some medical issues while caring for her husband, Carl.
“As I’ve shared in video messages throughout the past year, I am dealing with some health issues that I just didn’t pay attention to when I was watching over [my husband] Carl. You know, this isn’t the first time I’ve had to manage something like this. Back in the early ’80s, I was down for several months with female issues, and I was struggling with my weight at the time too, so it’s not like I haven’t been through hard times with my health,” Parton told PEOPLE.
Her nephew, Bryan Seaver, announced her death in an Instagram video Tuesday on behalf of the Parton and Owens family.
“My name is Bryan Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, and I’m representing the Parton and Owens family today announcing the passing of my aunt, Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean, Sister, Sis and Granny to one generation and Gigi to the next,” he says in the video.
Seaver, who served as Parton’s head of security for more than two decades, said she had asked him years earlier to deliver the announcement.
“This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality,” he continued. “As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it until now.”
Seaver said the moment brought immense pride and heartbreak, but he took comfort in his faith that Parton had been reunited with Carl and other loved ones.
