Trump Says Iran Peace Deal Is Near As Draft Agreement Awaits Final Approval
The United States and Iran could be on the verge of a major diplomatic breakthrough, with a draft peace proposal reportedly finalized and awaiting final approval from leaders in both countries.
However, Democrats and their allies reacted with disdain online after the news was announced.
A source close to the negotiations told The Washington Times that a draft agreement was reached early Saturday and could be formally announced within 24 hours if final signoffs are secured.
If completed, the agreement would transform what has been a fragile six-week truce into a more permanent peace arrangement between the two longtime adversaries.
President Donald Trump added to the momentum Saturday with a lengthy Truth Social post suggesting a major breakthrough may be close.
“I am in the Oval Office at the White House where we just had a very good call with President Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, of The United Arab Emirates, Emir Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, and Minister Ali al-Thawadi, of Qatar, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir Ahmed Shah, of Pakistan, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, of Türkiye, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, of Egypt, King Abdullah II, of Jordan, and King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, of Bahrain, concerning the Islamic Republic of Iran, and all things related to a Memorandum of Understanding pertaining to PEACE,” Trump wrote.
“An Agreement has been largely negotiated, subject to finalization between the United States of America, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the various other Countries, as listed,” he continued.
“Separately, I had a call with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, of Israel, which, likewise, went very well,” the president wrote. “Final aspects and details of the Deal are currently being discussed, and will be announced shortly.”
“In addition to many other elements of the Agreement, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened,” he said.
The proposed agreement reportedly has already been approved by top negotiators including Vice President J.D. Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf and Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner.
The draft has now been sent to national leadership for final approval, but details remain murky.
Major unresolved questions reportedly include the future of Iran’s nuclear program, sanctions relief, shipping access through the Strait of Hormuz and enforcement mechanisms.
Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir reportedly played a major mediating role in narrowing differences between the two sides.
A Qatari delegation also arrived in Tehran as part of final diplomatic efforts.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio indicated progress was being made but made clear the administration’s red lines remain unchanged.
“The president’s preference is always to solve problems such as these through a negotiated diplomatic solution,” Rubio said.
Rubio also said Iran cannot possess a nuclear weapon, must surrender highly enriched uranium and international shipping must move freely through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran publicly acknowledged Saturday that negotiations are advancing.

“The final draft of an agreement text between Iran and the U.S. is still under review,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said.
“Over the past week, the process has been moving towards convergence of views,” he said. “There are still issues that need to be addressed through discussions with mediators.”
“We must wait and see where the situation will lead in the next three or four days,” he added.
Meanwhile, Democrats and their allies took to social media to denounce the deal.

Trump has alternated between optimism and threats as negotiations unfolded.

He also warned that if diplomacy collapses, he would blow Iran “to kingdom come,” The Washington Times reported.
At a rally on Friday in New York, Trump predicted the war would end soon.
“The war will be over soon,” Trump said. “Oil prices are going to tumble as soon as I finish up with Iran.”

“Whether it be the hundreds of millions of books donated through her invaluable Imagination Library or funding research that helped create a lifesaving vaccine used around the world, Dolly’s unconditional love for all people was the guiding force for her lasting impact. After bravely facing a brief battle with cancer, Dolly departed her Earthly life today at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center surrounded by loved ones,” the statement concluded.
The “Jolene” singer had also been dealing with kidney and autoimmune issues before her death, PEOPLE previously reported.
Just days earlier, Dolly Parton opened up about her declining health and acknowledged that she had put off addressing some medical issues while caring for her husband, Carl.
“As I’ve shared in video messages throughout the past year, I am dealing with some health issues that I just didn’t pay attention to when I was watching over [my husband] Carl. You know, this isn’t the first time I’ve had to manage something like this. Back in the early ’80s, I was down for several months with female issues, and I was struggling with my weight at the time too, so it’s not like I haven’t been through hard times with my health,” Parton told PEOPLE.
Her nephew, Bryan Seaver, announced her death in an Instagram video Tuesday on behalf of the Parton and Owens family.
“My name is Bryan Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, and I’m representing the Parton and Owens family today announcing the passing of my aunt, Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean, Sister, Sis and Granny to one generation and Gigi to the next,” he says in the video.
Seaver, who served as Parton’s head of security for more than two decades, said she had asked him years earlier to deliver the announcement.
“This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality,” he continued. “As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it until now.”
Seaver said the moment brought immense pride and heartbreak, but he took comfort in his faith that Parton had been reunited with Carl and other loved ones.
