Kevin Miles, the realtor, signed an affidavit two days later.
He stated that Martin had told him I was “already relocated,” that Elaine produced a key, and that Peter mentioned a sale price they hoped to accept quickly before “Mom got sentimental again.”
That phrase found me like a slap.
Sentimental.
As if wanting to live in my own house was a mood.
As if memory were a defect lowering market value.
Mr. Lawson placed the affidavit in the growing file.
“Ruth,” he said, “your children are building my case for me.”
I looked at the folder.
