Then Mr. Amos’s camera alert brought him over before I managed to sit up.
Naomi arrived thirty minutes later.
Deputy Bell after that.
No child of mine was called until I chose it.
At urgent care, the nurse asked who my emergency contact was.
I said, “Naomi Price, county social services, and Sheriff Reeves’s office secondary.”
She blinked.
“Not family?”
