Chapter 061 – The Empty Room

Chapter 61 - Chapter 061 – The Empty Room
The room that hurt most was not my bedroom.
It was the small guest room where Elaine had packed my things.
She had left hangers on the bed. One drawer half-open. A photograph of Henry and me face down on the carpet.
For weeks, I kept the door closed.
Then one morning, I opened it and stood there with a trash bag, a laundry basket, and a stubbornness I had grown late but strong.
I washed every sheet.
Sorted every drawer.
Hung my clothes back up.
Then I placed Henry’s photograph on the dresser facing the room.
“There,” I told him.
May you like
His paper face smiled.
I chose to take that as approval.
