Chapter 097 – The Second Bus Station Call

Chapter 97 - Chapter 097 – The Second Bus Station Call

Alder House received its first bus station call in March.

An eighty-four-year-old man named Walter had been left in the waiting room by a niece who said she would return after parking.

She did not.

The clerk saw our card taped by the staff phone.

Calvin called Naomi.

Naomi called the response team.

She did not call me first.

That mattered.

This could not be my wound running loose in public.

It had to be a system strong enough to work without my adrenaline.

Walter had a dead phone, a grocery bag of medicine, and a house key tied to his shoelace because he feared losing it.

The responders got him safe for the night. His bank card was secured. Sheriff Reeves contacted his niece. The paperwork began before the excuses did.

When Naomi told me Walter was safe, I sat at my kitchen table and sobbed.

Not from pain.

May you like

From proof.

The bench had become a door.
