Repainted the porch swing Henry built badly but proudly.

Mrs. Delgado helped me plant basil because mine always died from what she called emotional neglect.

Calvin visited from the bus station with his grandmother’s biscuit recipe and a grin.

He stood in the foyer and looked around.

“Nice place.”

“Mine,” I said.

He nodded like that was the important part.

“Good.”

I showed him the postcard on the fridge.

He laughed.

“You still got the key?”

I held up my key ring.

“More than one now.”

That felt like victory.
