Chapter 50 - Chapter 050 – Peter Tells The Dawn

Because truth had finally become less frightening than Martin.

He admitted Elaine packed only old clothes so I would not “dig in” at the house.
He admitted my phone battery had been removed.
He admitted the Springfield ticket was chosen because no close relative remained there to contradict the story.
He admitted the realtor was scheduled to come that evening.
He cried through most of it.
Judge Cole let him.
Crying did not erase the transcript.
When Mr. Lawson asked why he drove away, Peter covered his face.
“Because Martin said if we didn’t all do it, Mom would divide us.”

“No, Mr. Carter. Your mother did not divide you.”
The room went still.
“She documented you.”
