Elaine nodded, crying.
“I understand.”
“No,” I said. “You want to. Understanding takes longer.”
She looked up.
I softened my voice, but not the truth.
“You abandoned me in public and tried to sell my home in private. Do not ask my heart to move faster than your actions did.”
She wept quietly then.
